Detecting pain in cattle can be challenging, as animals often show subtle or difficult-to-interpret signs of discomfort. Early and accurate pain assessment, however, plays a key role in improving animal welfare, recovery, and herd management.

To help farmers and veterinarians assess pain more easily in the field, Ceva introduces BoviSensor, a new practical app designed to support cattle pain detection and evaluation through scientifically validated criteria.

Developed under the leadership of Oniris, the National Veterinary School of Nantes (France), with the support of a panel of veterinary experts, Ceva launches BoviSensor, the app that translates scientific knowledge into an intuitive and accessible digital tool for everyday use.

With BoviSensor, users can:

  • Assess pain using behaviour-based observations
  • Calculate an objective pain score
  • Access expert-based recommendations
  • Export and share reports for improved follow-up and collaboration

Ceva launches BoviSensor cattle pain app

Unlike traditional tools that focus mainly on lameness, BoviSensor uses a broader approach, applying condition-specific evaluation grids tailored to common health issues in both adult and young cattle.

Designed to be practical and easy to use, the app supports better and faster decision-making, helping to improve outcomes in cattle pain management directly on farm.

By bringing expert pain assessment tools into the hands of veterinarians and farmers, BoviSensor reinforces Ceva’s commitment to supporting animal welfare through practical and science-based solutions.

BoviSensor is available for download on both Android and iOS devices, making it easily accessible for use in the field.
